History

Scandinavian Aviation Academy has delivered professional flight training towards individuals and airlines for more than forty years. Below you find some of our milestones during the years.
First logo
1963
Bromma Flygskola is established offering private pilot education at Bromma Airport.

 

1967
First Commercial Pilot education in co-operation with the airlines Scandinavian Airline System, SAS, and Linjeflyg.

 

1979
Swedish CAA authorization to perform training towards a Commercial Pilot License with an Instrument rating.

 

1984
The first aviation school in Sweden authorized by the Swedish CAA, to perform the modern integrated, Ab-initio, pilot training.

 

1987
Collinder Airtraining AB is acquired.
In house theory and simulator training.
Transition training of military pilots towards civilian certificates on commission by SAS, Linjeflyg and Swedair. More than 100 pilots trained during a 3-year programme.

 

1988
Commercial Pilot training on commission by airline Linjeflyg.

 

1990
Bromma Flygskola AB acquires 50% of Hangar 5 AB. Modern hangars and offices for service and maintenance of aircraft and avionics, sales of aircraft and components.

 

1992
Commercial Pilot training in Estonia on commission for the Estonian CAA. Training of Estonian flight instructors in modern western techniques and ICAO requirements. Lease of airplanes and technical support to Tartu Aviation College in Estonia.
Bromma Flygskola AB acquires 92% of Hangar 5 AB.

 

1994
Commercial Pilot training at secondary school level on commission by the Västerås City School board.
Hangar 5 AB receives JAR-145 approval.

 BF becoming SAA

1999
Start of Commercial Pilot training at secondary school level on commission by the Arvidsjaur City School board.
New name: Scandinavian Aviation Academy

2000
Implementation of new training standards in accordance with JAA requirements. FTO approval for JAR-integrated courses at Västerås, Arvidsjaur and San Diego, USA.

MCC training package in co-operation with SAS Flight Academy. Training program approved for student loans and grants by Swedish government loans and grants authority (CSN).

 

2001
Flight Instructor training program in cooperation with Lärarhögskolan in Stockholm. The location of training is in Arvidsjaur, Sweden.
In June the schools “ab initio” pilot training is accredited by SAS. This means that BF SAA AB applicants can apply to the airline without filling the flight requirements of 700 hours of which 200 shall be multi-engine.
3 year renewal of JAR-FCL FTO approval by Swedish CAA

2002
Volito AB aquires 100% of SAA.
Agreement with SAS Flight Academy AB which gives BF SAA AB the exclusive right to sell self funded type ratings to private individuals

2003
BF SAA AB is together with SAS Flight Academy approved to conduct pilot training for Ryanair. BF SAA AB has the status of “Official Training Provider” for Ryanair. 48 pilots recruited and trained on the B737NG during 2003 and 2004.

 

2004
SAA develops in house Distance Learning System, DLS, to provide high quality distance theory courses.
Acquisition of Elite FNPT II simulator, Västerås

2005
SAA acquires Scandinavian Aviation Academy Inc. in San Diego and moves the training facilities to Gillespie Field.
Hangar 5 AB incorporates Dala Airtech AB and changes name to Scandinavian Airtech AB who provides SAA with all aircraft maintenance in Sweden

2006
Co-operation with Malmö Aviation TRTO. 10 pilots trained on the SAAB 2000 commuter aircraft, all were hired by airlines within a few months.
The Swedish CAA approves SAA to perform JAR ab-initio training at the San Diego satellite as well as on line examinations in the U.S.

 

2007
Expansion with Indian and other Asian students in San Diego.
Distance Learning System (DLS) licensed to Finnair.

 

2008
Expansion with students from China Eastern in San Diego.
Partnership with EPST - European Pilot Selection & Training.
Distance Learning System, DLS licensed to Braathens Training TRTO.

 

2009
Distance Learning System, DLS licensed to WestAir Europe.

2010
The National Agency for Higher Vocational Education (Yrkeshögskolan) Approves SAA to continue the governmental pilot training in Västerås.
